About Us
Background
Last summer the UK Government launched the Renewable Energy Strategy (RES) and the Office for Renewable Energy Deployment (ORED): both designed to support the UK’s target of producing 15% of energy from renewable sources by 2020.
The Office for Renewable Energy Deployment (ORED), which is part of the Department of Energy and Climate Change, supports UK business by addressing delivery issues across a range of renewable energy technologies. At the same time its work will maximise the economic and employment opportunities created by a rapid increase in renewable deployment.
Through the DECC UK Renewables Service, ORED aims to promote the UK globally as the preferred location for renewable energy development, investment and deployment.
DECC’s UK Renewables Service
DECC’s UK Renewables Service supports individual companies that are entering or expanding in the renewables industry by providing information, advice and contacts. Whilst the service will primarily support offshore wind a limited level of resource will be available to support other technologies. Its overall aim therefore is to:
Promote the UK as the number one location for investment in the offshore wind manufacturing supply chain – including communicating the latest developments in Government policy and key strategic messages to relevant potential investors.

Showcase the UK offer in the renewables sector more widely – in terms of natural resource, business environment, infrastructure, policy framework & financial support (in terms of investment support and deployment cross subsidies), as well as the presence and capability of the UK’s existing manufacturing and component supply chain to support new manufacturing entrants.

Facilitate business opportunities by working with selected potential entrants to the supply chain (coordinating closely with DECC, BIS, UKTI and others to ensure lead points of contact for particular companies), as well as in some cases working with potential investors. The service will also in some cases facilitate contacts between existing UK companies in the sector and potential overseas customers or partners, as part of its broader promotional activity. This will initially be delivered through a series of UK and overseas activities, working in partnership with UK Trade & Investment and other stakeholders.
