UK Hosts International Delegates to All Energy Event; Boosts UK Renewables Industry
UK Trade &
Investment (UKTI) and the Department of Energy and Climate Change
(DECC) hosted 94 international delegates from 31 Countries in a week
long programme surrounding the UK’s largest renewable energy event– the
All Energy Conference and Exhibition, in Aberdeen; 18 – 22 May.
The international delegates were from industry and from overseas governments. They had been especially invited by the UKTI representatives based in their countries to view the progress being made in renewable energy in the UK, both in official policy and supportive programmes and in industrial capabilities. Those delegates with specific interests in heat and distributed energy, and in onshore and offshore wind, were led on programmes of visits to some of the UK’s leading biomass and wind companies before going to the main All Energy event.
The host companies included Talbotts, Dresser Rand, Orchid Environmental Limited, EnerG Holdings plc, Michelin, Burntisland Fabrications Ltd, Dundee Port, Macom Technologies Ltd, Strathclyde University and the Braes of Doune Windfarm. The visits enabled delegates to talk to directly to companies about the UK’s capabilities in the deployment of renewable energy technologies as they working towards achieving the UK’s 2020 targets. They also could discuss the prospects for investing in the UK’s industry, and for using UK capabilities in their own coutries.
Objectives of the delegates ranged from business networking, finding potential partners for collaborative projects, developing business in the UK or setting up offices, to gaining a greater understanding of the UK Renewables market.
Head of Trade Promotion with DECC’s UK Renewables service, John Buckley, said ‘It was excellent to be able to use this event to showcase the opportunities surrounding Renewables in the UK. The overseas companies were able to see at first hand UK companies that are interested in sharing technologies and developing partnerships internationally’
The international delegates were welcomed by The Lord Provost of Aberdeen, at an official reception ahead of the conference and exhibition. During the event itself, they were provided with the facility of an International Business Lounge at the event to facilitate meetings with UK companies. With intense use of this meeting and networking facility, it was clear that many international business links with UK companies were indeed established during the week.
Sir Andrew Cahn, Chief Executive of UK Trade & Investment, said: "It is vitally important that people know what expertise the UK has.
"Our energy sector is at the forefront of world-leading products that will help realise our goal of a clean, low-carbon, prosperous future. That is why I am delighted that UKTI and the Department of Energy and Climate Change hosted a delegation of almost 100 overseas energy players at the All Energy Exhibition and Conference in Aberdeen.
"These visitors have met UK renewables companies that have developed cutting edge skills and technologies. They are proof enough that the UK is without doubt an outstanding place in the world to develop a low carbon business."
