REA's Annual Wave & Tidal Symposium
The EU has allocated the UK a 15% target for renewable energy contribution by 2020. With current polices set to deliver only 5% within that timescale, a ten fold increase in renewables output in just 12 years is required.

The virtually untapped resource of Marine Renewable energy in the UK is an essential component for achieving that target.
This year themes will include the deployment of Marine devices and connection to the grid, coinciding with the actual deployment of operational devices by Pelamis and Marine Current Turbine, due to be completed this year. We shall also look at regional and devolved administration policies. Why is the government in Westminster dragging its feet while Scotland, Wales and the South West are leaping ahead to support Marine renewable energy?
We cannot hold a Marine RE conference without discussing the Severn Barrage and its implications. The Sustainable Develop Commission 2007 report indicated that tidal power, especially the barrage, could potentially account for 5% of UK energy consumption. Will the barrage be the big brother of the renewable energy industry, or an unwelcome intruder?
Last years case studies session detailing real experiences of device developers was immensely popular and we will be offering another session giving device developers a platform to share their experiences, highlight the stumbling blocks and how they overcame the hurdles of actual deployment and operation of devices. The annual REA Wave and Tidal Technology symposium, now in its 6th year, will be located on the waterfront of Cardiff Bay just a short distance from the city centre and the conference suite boasts unique and breathtaking views across the water.
